Change the spark plug wires? Would that work? You need to check that the distributer is not off by 180 degrees. If so, remove the distributer and insert it in 180 degrees the other way. To check, put

Sorry, I changed the wires too. When you say remove the distributor and put it in 180 the other way, there is only one way that the chuck (proper term?) will line up on this model - the slots are off

If you have the timing light pick-up on No 1 and the light illuminates the mark on the pulley by the marks on the cover then your leads aren't 180 degrees out. At least, only if the pulley is 180 deg

Now I remember - its the chuck. Yes, I've been there. It is off set so you have to pull the chuck and reinsert it 180 degrees so the offset points the other way. As I recall, I was able to use a 5/16
