Bob, Thanks for the info. I'm measuring 15 degrees with the strobe at 1000 rpm, so looks like it's in good shape. I agree with the 600 rpm remark. Why do the shop manuals tell you to set the idle at

Hi Bob, I don't know why they spec 600 rpm. Maybe at the time they were built the gasoline was so different that they could be made to idle slower, maybe it was that the compression was lower before
