Most likely a worn bendix drive on the starter. They are replaceable but not real easy to do. (I just did one) Those gear reduced starters seem like overkill if you ask me. Not for a street car anywa

A sluggish bendix will do the same thing. Have an old Ford flathead that did it until I took it out and cleaned and lubed 'er a little after that it's been fine for the last 30 years. Dave
