If your manifold is warped so badly that you burn through the gasket in that short a time, there's an excellent possibility that it is also leaking around the intake flange - thus seriously leaning

MGBs used two different types of exhaust manifolds withthe SUs: pre- and post '71. Can't remember which way around this is but one of them has thicker "shoulders" than the other. If your's is mismat
