Why guess, go to your local auto parts store and have it tested. Most of the testers I have seen recently show if the diode pack is bad. This, by the way appears to be the major problem with these un

If your ignition warning light is burned out, the alternator won't charge the battery. Check continuity in the bulb before spending big money on an alternator rebuild. Regards Atwell Haines '79 Spit

FYI I checked that with the ignition on the field connector terminal has the supply voltage that goes on and off with the ignition which suggests that the lamp is probably OK. I'll see if I can get i
