I put an early TR6 transmission with overdrive (from a 69, A-Type) in my 74 TR6 in 1983. It was a very simple installation. It is definitely worth doing, as the car happily cruises at 3500 in 4th ove

Might be a good time to mention ... J-types were also used in many other cars (like Triumph saloons, Volvos and even MGB) which contributes to the supply. However, the units used in these other cars

David, I'll just echo what others have said ... there are no long term problems from not having overdrive, except for shorter engine life, higher fuel consumption, and more noise at freeway speeds.
