It's theoretically possible to add overdrive to a standard 4 speed, but you have to change some internal parts in the tranny. (the mainshaft being the main one, it has to be a few inches longer) The

Whenever this question is asked, and answered, everyone seems to always forget one critical part that is NOT internal. The rear extension on the standard gearbox is replaced with an overdrive adapter

This may be true for the early 3 syncro trans, but that has not been my experience with the 4 syncro trans. I have installed an OD setup in a 1969 and 1970 MGB that previously had a non OD trans and
