I agree, the vent is the same color as the car and probably the mesh too as I don't think it can be removed.

I am not an authority, but my observation has been that the earlier cars have chrome grilles while later cars have body-color. I don't know when the change took place, but I strongly suspect it was 6

Nope!!!! I have a 66 and it was always painted. Look at magazine articles of the day and you'll see it was painted.

On early cars, the grates were body color. Custom folks had them chromed. Both of the 64 models that I had were painted, as were the 3 67 cars that I previously owned. Sid ___________________________

I learned something interesting about the Air Vent a few years ago. It appears that the air vent was placed on the rear shelf area of the car when it went through the painting process at the factory
