- Your diagnosis is a were I would start. It's the easiest and you have to replace the water pump anyway. If your initial "fixes" don't fix the problem: The chirps could be from an alternator bearing

- Sounds like antifreeze is getting on your alternator belt causing it to slip. I had the same problem with a Ford Ranger--the hose leaked on the belt which made it slip and the power steering wouldnt
