Larry, The only think that I can think of off the top of my head that will cause the diodes to fail is connecting the battery backward. In some cars, this will cause the rectifying diodes to physical

I've always been told that running the engine with the battery disconnected will also damage the diodes in the alternator, hence the warnings not to do that. Is that the reason, or is that something
