This is strange. That is pretty much exactly how I have my alt hooked up. On mine it won't charge till I hit like 3000rpm then it will charge all the way down to ~1000rpm. Your not just checking at

Doesn't make too much sense if it starts to charge @2,500RPMs. What happens if you get stuck in traffic?????? Would a smaller pulley help? I run a 240Z alt w/o any of those problems. '66 Mike

For the single wire alternator (GM) they self excite once you generate enough voltage. You have to get the alternator spinning fast enough to "turn itself on". Once energized, it will charge just fi

It's very strange... I got above 2K rpm and it charged about 3 volts then stopped... it did go higher as RPM's increased, but never high enough. I tried the other alternator... it works fine too in t

If your alternator is not starting to put anything out until 3000 RPM, wouldn't it be possible to play with the pulley sizes to get it spinning faster? Best regards, Brian St.Jacques Project Manager

And then when you hit 6000 RPMs, listen for the explosion of parts under the hood! Alternators are one of the items that severely limit how fast a motor is red lined at (water pumps rank right up the
