Gary, does it have to rotate in the same direction? Seems like alternators would be bidirectional. BUt I am not a 'lectrical type folk..

They work in either direction. Warning! Before changing the direction, replace the brushes. They wear different depending on the direction of rotation. Bryan

If you have a problem with space then don't worry about direction mount it in reverse. I've seen the mounted to the frame and not the engine with the pulley facing the engine...Get the point?
