How is it that folks are able to claim such high speeds on "Stock" spridgets? On my '74 Midget, I am at approximately 4500 rpms well into the mid 70mph range. My yellow line starts at 5500, I think.

The mid-70s Spridgets had a 3.9 rear end, which is what is coming into play for any factory claim of 100mph. (see my last email about road test cars creeping into redline for a bit more speed) For th

I'd like to add one item to this discussion. Just changing the effective rear end ratio, such as by adding an overdrive won't necessarily raise the car's top speed if the engine can't pull the gear.

Top speed is limited by engine BHP assuming the gearing is correct. I would guess that there are some 5 speed cars on 3.9 diffs that will attain a higher top speed in 4th (assuming a tuned engine th

Top speed in my 1500 midget is higher when I am in o/drive, as the engine does pull well enough to use the xtra gear, but then as I have said the engine is mildly tuned. What really governs top speed
