There have been years when the flies in the electric eyes were more detrimental to timing performance than any bird. Hill AFB has warned pilots about flying too close to any activities on the salt.

In 1990, I had a collision with a bird at 200 MPH plus. Saw it at eye level, then it zoomed up, but didn't make it. I have pictures of feathers, etc. at the top of the windshield. Tom
