I pulled my left rear axle in order to replace a bent hub. I remember the mechanic using a large puller and a 5 lb precision adjustment tool. After several hits, the hub separated with a bang. I disc

Hi Larry, That was my initial reaction, but Dave's mechanic's suggestion is to thread the die on all the way (not just flush with the end of the axle), do the banging on the end of the axle as before
