I am confused here. All of the axle shafts that I have ever seen for disk wheels have a flange on the end which I was sure was forged with the axle. That is they are one piece. Axles for wire wheels

They are not press fit. After undoing the knock-on ears (or the octagonal chrome nut), you can rock the wheel off by hand. To remove the half shaft, you need to remove the brake drum (4 nuts) and und
