As originally built, the car would have had snap studs - same as on the tunnel cover - with matching carpet snaps on the carpets. Four in each footwell for the front carpets, and two on each side at

Ned, You need the "ring snaps" with the black ring w/ 3 prongs which push thru the carpet & pad and bend over retaining the the female component of the snap which then snaps onto the male snap on the
