Russ, I have been thinking about a 6 and a12V in series for 18 V. We don't run a generator and ignition systems are designed for generator voltage around 14.5V. I read somewhere that MSD systems are

I just remembered one more possibility. Sintered plate aircraft batteries. Sintered plates have enormous surface area and that's what determines the max current. A small 12V sintered plate NICAD airc

suggest you try a "gellcell" (instrument battery) supplier. There are 2 or 3 in Houston, but I don't know their names, off the top of my head. Your series system will probably work-out to around 18.

We havn't had any cranking problems with the big blocks and I don't expect any from the "D" motor I am building. It just seems to me that if your ignition system is designed for 14.5 volts then it m

List; In pre-historic days I had a duel cell battery in my hoped up '50 Olds. Came with a solenoid and cranked with 12 volts but ran all the systems on 6. It was a great idea for saving Olds starters

Bob I can see that if they were in parallel. In a 12V you already have 6 two volt cells in series so adding adding 1, 2 or 3 more cells won't cause a battery problem. Bryan /// unsubscribe/change add

Here's a few suggestions. Any idea how much current the ignition draws? How about using two 8-volt tractor batteries for a 16-volt setup? Also, you could use seven 2-volt Hawker Cyclone lead-acid bat

You've brought up a very good example. Our Corporal missile internal batteries were made up of 4 amp-hr sintered-plate Ni-Cd cells. They were capable of supplying at least 18 amps for 6 minutes, if

"Gellcells" aren't very good for supplying high peak current. I'd look at other types if high cranking current is needed. They are great for other applications, though. Regards, Neil Tucson, AZ Glen
