David and I were chatting on the phone bout this idea... and now I've got a much better idea about what he was talking about... He's actually done this test... the results of which will be published

The problem is you can not isolate it down to the bore and stroke only. By nature the other parts do form a combination that favors a particular bore and stroke combination. If you change the baselin

Actually Dave should consider rod length more than stroke. As to t he test, I suspect that this has been done many times in the past and research might find the data. Small bore and long stroke make

Mayf he's played with rod lengths and gone to some extreames to maintain the rod ratio in this test.... to maintain the same compression ratio and to truly find out if one combination is better then

Ain't so simple bud. Depends on the RPM range your working with. If I'm building a motor for my truck I want a long stroke to torque it around. If this motor is going in my Hondaliner I want the big

The answer is obvious. Small bore and long stroke!!!! Look at any steam engine. Or talk to any owner of a diesel pickup. Only torque counts. Bryan

Okay now we are getting somewhere John... you have just told me the conventional wisdom... it's what has proven to be true in the past... it's the accepted theory of how this should work out... but w

Dave, will you do the tests honestly? By that I mean will you only change rod length on the engine or will you farkle with the compression ratio, cam timing , valve sizes etc? I really would like to

I had originally intended to be dishonest and monkey it up. Instead, I ordered custom pistons (thanks, JE) so that the deck height, compression ratio, and ring width will not change. Piston weight wi

With low rod ratio motors the piston gets half way down quicker - The intake stroke sucks harder and earlier and the intake valves and ports need to be biger to take advantage - The bad part is the e

David - When talking about the rod ratio a longer stroke does the same thing as a shorter rod - The rod ratio would affect full throttle jetting a little but I wouldn't think it would affect idle vac
