Howdy all, Tonight while waiting in line at my favorite burger shack, I noticed a semi-disturbing problem on my MGB. When I had the car in neutral with the clutch out, the oil pressure would bounce f

Hi Mike, I don't think you should worry so much about this. It's quite logical the pressure goes up and down with the idle revs. That the clutch is effecting this can be explained of the fact the pre

An engine oil pump is a positive displacement pump which pumps its volume of oil according to engine RPM's (i. e., five times as much oil at 5,000 RPM than 1,000 RPM). A liquid (engine oil, in this

One thing to bear in mind too is that the engine temperature is of influence here. When cold the pressure is much higher than when the engine is at normal temperature. My experience is, that an engi

A possible cause for this (I'm told) is the oil pressure relief = valve. There is a spring which, if worn or weakend, will allow the valve = to open at a certain RPM. On my 1977, after I have REALLY

I have the same symptom on my 75 (no oil-cooler). I've heard other people talk about it as well. It only happens to me when the oil is warming, but not quite warmed up. I wouldn't worry about it as l

Pressure-relief valve flutter is a 'feature', not a fault. By changing the valve and spring you may stop it altogether, move it to a different rev-range, or leave it unchanged. PaulH.

Let me know if you find the cause of the pressure bounce. My GT does much the same thing at times. At idle it will sometimes (not always) bounce between 45-60, rather rhythmically. It's been doing t

In my experience with any type of vehicle with a mechanical oil pressure gauge.... usually a bouncing pressure indicates you have air in the tube leading to the gauge. The only way to bleed the air i
