A purple color would indicate silicone. A yellow or brownish color would indicate regular fluif Al Salvatore 76TR6

Non-silicone brake fluif eats paint. If you put some brake fluif on a painted area and the paint doesn't react, it's silicone. It's a bit of a kludge, but it works. Eric -- '57 TR3A TS23315L '76 Spit

Thanks everyone... I've never had any experience with silicone based fluid since all my cars have used the regular stuff, and have wondered about the bluish (it actually looks more blue than purple

Dot3/4 fluid is water soluble, silicone is not. If you dip your finger in it and give it quick rinse and have traces of the fluid on your finger afterwards it is probably silicone. Dave
