There is more to this story than was covered in that article. Noting that the writer builds brake systems for race cars his perspective may be a little narrow. Talk to the curator of any major car mu

I have seen several people indicate that DOT5 is not good for racing or autocross. Maybe I am naove, but I have had it in Tiny Tim (The autocross Spit) ever since I built it in 2000. I have not seen

I readily admit two things: 1. I've heard pretty much all the arguments about each type of fluid many times; and 2. Despite the paint-removal risks, I've always stayed with good old Castrol GT/LMA. T

There's nothing wrong with it, it just isn't best for racing. I had it in my NASCAR TR3, and five or six laps into a race my brakes would get a bit spongy. Still there, but less precise. I swapped to

That is pretty well what I was thinking. Since autocross runs are typically less than a minute in duration followed by a cool down period, that would account for why I have not noticed any adverse br

You know I never thought about changing it. Just about everytime I change brake pads/shoes, I do some bleeding. I typically bleed more than necessary and may actually be changing the fluid. Like I sa

I've never changed mine, just to be changing it. Of course, it hasn't all been in my TR3A for over 15 years, I've had the system open several times to replace hoses & seals. But I've still not seen

I'm a little nutty when it comes to brakes--I think they are the very best way to go fast. I want them to be powerful and progressive, and work pretty much the same way every time. Complete confidenc

In the earlyn '70's Group 44 and ourselves, amongst others in different forms of racing, did some early silicon brake fluid testing for Dow Corning. The brake fluid worked well. As Dow progressed, th

Actually, I originally switched to silicone because I was using natural rubber (only thing available at the time as far as I knew) and American-made DOT 4 was eating them. There may have been some f
