I have a quick question about my brakes, if anyone has a moment to offer I have a 1974 Midget and just installed my rebuilt brake calipers, new pads, new rotors, new flex hoses and new wheel bearings

None of the following is specific to Sprites - just disc brakes in general. I would drive the car for a day to break the new stuff in before worrying about it much. If the rotors are warped, you wil

Thanks for the advice Les. There are two questions I have based on the above. 1) I have only driven probably about 1 mile total since installation. I notice in just a short 2 minute run to the grocer

If you can jack up the car and turn the wheel fairly easy, it shouldn't damage the rotors. I would just do some slow speed intermittent stop and go driving. Brake rotors get amazingly hot in normal

Yes, I have jacked up the car and it turns fairly easily - easily enough to make it kind of difficult align the wheel studs with the holes in the wheel for mounting given my cramped garage space. :)

In the case of Sprites/Midgets, the caliper has to move back and forth on the mounting bolts themselves. (If this weren't true you would have to have two pistons, one for each brake pad) Les

That doesn't sound right for the calipers on my car, which I am 90% sure came off a '67. They are bolted pretty solidly to the kingpins. I always assumed that the "wobbling" in and out was taken care

Well, this mystery of caliper movement at least seems to be cleared up. I shan't be looking for that movement as as Tom and Steve have pointed out, I have the two pistons per caliper assembly. Just c

Then what I said doesn't apply. Never had a Spridget caliper off yet - assumed only one piston. Sorry. Les

Just to clear things up. All Spridget calipers are the same except for maybe early Girling factory options on Bugeyes which I have never seen. They all have 2 pistons and do NOT move (should not) whe
