I have a question. I had my brake rotors turned when I Replaced my brake Pads. After the Machinist turned the rotors, he took his grinding wheel to the rotor to create in effect cross hatch marks. Is

Unless your rotor is warped and pulsating it is not necessary to cut the rotors. What you need to do is cut the glaze and I used a coarse scotchbrite 3" wheel on my drill to do this. Sears sells the

Well it did not pulse before the Rotors were cut, but it does now. It is a '98 Nissan, with 57000 miles on it. I think it's time to trade it in for a Toyota. scotchbrite Replaced

I looked up the past threads on turning rotors. The "gurus" have not issued their usual warning. From what I read, when you turn rotors you add to the distance a brake pad has to travel to put pressu

I dont think the caliper pistons have to move all that distance everytime you use the brake pedal. The piston will only go one way unless you remove the pads and push them back into the caliper body

It was commented: If this were true, then the same would be true as the pads themselves wear. Disc brake calipers are -self-adjusting' - as need be, the pistons come out further from the cylinder _an

Excessive heat is another reason. Rotors turned too much do not dissipate heat as well. Anyone who has ever experienced over heated brakes can tell you it's not a comforting experience. On Mon, 13 No

I am going to need new rotors on my daily driver (Q45) and happened to be at the little shop that takes care of her. We were talking about the rotors and possibly using cross drilled replacements. Th

Matt asks: Original rotors are reported to have been 0.400 or 0.380 in thick. If they're cut too thin, the calipers press on the bridge and don't apply force to the pads (see Tom's tech tips, http://
