If it's really the original MC the inside is doubtless a gooey mess. For the amount of trouble involved and considering the possibility of overhoning creating a poor seal, I would just get a new one.

I bought a new one in order to avoid any safety risk, but had the original repaired in a brake specialist shop. This gives me a initial spare when needed. The shop tested the unit before returning it
