Around here you can find 2nd hand axles for about A$60 or about US$35-40 I assume you have steel wheels and not wires.... The shafts most commonly break at the flange (ripping the center out of the f

David, The axle shafts get used to being twisted in one direction, when you reverse that direction you shorten their life. On autocross cars some people paint a stripe down the axle shaft so they can

I taught my girlfriend how to drive a stick in my '65 Midget. Her learning the clutch bit and "jerky" starts and shifts resulted in the untimely demise of the left axle. As it happened it broke at t

Excuse my butting in please, You would kind of think that it would make sense to 'swap' sides so as to utilise the fresh, un-worn surfaces, but I suspect there is some metallurgical grounds for not r

I believe that you can also shorten and respline a morris minor axle to fit a spridget, but I would think it's probably more hassle than it's worth. I suspect they're softer metal too.... Andy

I thought it had to do with heat treating of the later axles that make them stronger. The 948 (early) axles were just cold rolled steel, which is why they would break with such regularity with only 9

What to do when you snap an axle....... Like Mike said but I have never seen one snap at the wheel end, I have snapped about 8 or so all at the diff end. If it broke "clean" and did not twist off, yo

It is a fatigue thing. Fatigue life of components decreases with the maximum range of the loads. If you use the axle on both sides, the direction of the maximum principal stresses on the flange swing
