As mentioned, you have to also weld in a plate on the back or similar to spread the load. If you just weld up the crack it'll come right back, likely on the edge of your weld. Weld it up lightly, the

As well as welding up the crack I also welded in a small flange round the edge of the hole in the top of the door where the 1/4 light goes through as it was the only area that didn't have one. Later

When I did this repair I drilled a tension relief hole at the end of the crack. Then (I think) I drilled three holes on each side of the crack. I also "widened" the crack with a hack saw blade. After
