Hi all, my cam chains and gaskets etc arrived yesterday. Spent most of today installing them. Late in the afternoon I took a deep breath and hit the starter. Engine started real easy. BUT......no noi

I just went through this for 3 months on a 68 2000. You probably need the cam tower shims. If you don't know the head thickness then its a guess. .030 really tightened mine up and it ran great. Valve

Head thickness is 4.528-4.530" as measured at the 1st cam tower. Sounds like your oil pressure is dropping off as it warms up. What is it showing on the gauge? It still souldn't touch under any circu

I don't have a measurement for it, but here are some pictures to help you draw your own conclusions. The idea is to not let the tensioner foot come so far out of the bore that it jams. http://www.gor

Hey Gordon, Up late to huh? How many washers is that 4? I think that I have four on mine now and want to add a little bit more shimming. Maybe I should jsut ask how many washers is too much?? Daniel

Later than I should, that's for sure. I haven't used more than 4 washers, but that doesn't mean that I think 4 is the limit. But 4 is getting pretty dodgy. Using washers is definitely a bandaid. Gord

Is there a spec for the center to center distance between the jackshaft and the cam? Might be tough to measure even if there is, but it seems that would be the definitive measurement. Also I'd think

What you describe is saying the Chain touches the Evil-L no matter where the tensioner is at. This tells me: 1: Wrong size sprocket on cam; too large. 2: Wrong Chain; links too big. Pat There is a qu

I shimmed mine with rubber o rings. They provide a cushion for the tensioner foot.. However, with all of the new components, the tensioner was so much tighter, it didn't seem like I needed it. Sounds

There's no known spec for that distance. Plus it would require tearing down the engine to measure it, so it has no more value than measuring the head thickness. You're right about the lash pads, but

If the sprocket was too large, the cam timing wouldn't stay the same and the engine wouldn't run. Gordon Glasgow Renton, WA --Original Message-- From: owner-datsun-roadsters@autox.team.net [mailto:ow

The short answer is yes but as was pointed out, that's hard to do with the stock retainers. What you should do after shimming is check the cam/rocker arm contact (wipe) pattern. You do this by putti

Hey Fred, BMW uses them on their engines but I've never seen them available for the Roadsters - Are they? Keep in mind that increasing the head gasket thickness will decrease the compression ratio. B
