The new cam for my supercharged motor will need to be offset 5 degrees. There are two options, an offset key for about $15 or a vernier timing guage for about $200. The cam was ground by Elgin, so I

I guess you'll have to ask yourself how likely you are to pull the radiator, pulleys, & etc, to change the cam timing after you have it running again. Methinks you can buy quite a few keys for $200.

This is the motivation for a removable cam gear cover. I'd be able to dial in the cam timing a lot easier than having to take everything off. -- Girling is not a verb. lrc@red4est.com http://www.red4

Will you be able to get at the adjustment without having to dismantle any of the blower drive components? CR

Good point. It would require removing the belt and the idler pulley. This would still be a lot less effort than removing that and everything else that I'd have to, to change a timing adjustment key.

I just talked to someone at Elgin and he said that I should put it together, see where I end up, and get the proper key to fit. The next question is, should I get new timing gears, chain and tensione

I would tend to agree, not that I have any experience with degreeing in a cam. -- Max Heim '66 MGB GHN3L76149 If you're near Mountain View, CA, it's the primer red one with chrome wires

I wouldn't think that was necessary. Unless I had, say, Roger Penske's budget. -- Max Heim '66 MGB GHN3L76149 If you're near Mountain View, CA, it's the primer red one with chrome wires

Is the cam supposed to be a blower grind for the B engine? If it is, I'd prolly degree it in and buy the key I needed to get it right on. Gotta figure Elgin did some dyno testing. If they did, I'd su
