Hi folks, This may be a stupid question but here goes. (I've never had or used a triler before?) I'm looking for a way to transport my canoe using my MGB. I've thought of using a trailer, but the onl

As a design engineer, here's a suggestion. I had a similiar problem regarding the carrying of a kayak with the B and thought of building two vertical extensions up from the front and rear bumpers en

Dave, I had thought of doing something like that, but also thought of several problems: 1) where/how to attach the vertical extentions whithout marking up the car or leaving visable mounting points.

Simpler solution. Buy a hardtop. Put it on the car. Put canoe brackets on the hardtop. Tie the front and rear of the canoe to the bumpers. All the hardtop has to do is support 40 pounds or whatever t

A lot of local welding shops also do trailers. I'm sure you should be able to find one to make you a mini/custom trailer. They might even do the hitch for you too. -Aron Travis"always in a automotive

I think you can make this work. To answer your concerns: 1- Just checked my 64 B and if you drill a hole through the front and rear bumper support bars, I believe you can bolt on a flange that the u

I'd be concerned about the extra weight on the hardtop. The mounting hardware for the top is what worries me. Added stress against the front windshield and those two hooks where the top mounts on th

Don't forgot about the aerodynamic forces acting on the canoe at 55 mph. You'll probably have alternating up-forces and down-forces, all of which would probably kill your hard top. I don't think ther

My MGBGT came with a well constructed trailer hitch that attaches to the bumper mounting bolts. As I remember it, a previous owner used it to tow a trailer from California to upstate New York. My son

Thanks to all for the input on transporting a canoe, with an MG. It seems that the best route may be a trailer, and I've found a company that makes a sports trailer with attachments for carring canoe

Something to keep in mind, whether carrying a canoe on an MG or lumber on a toyota, is that front and rear tie downs dramatically reduce stress on roof racks. If you put a 40 lb canoe on roof racks,
