The "Car (Chassis) number", is what is American is generally referred to as the "Vehicle Identification Number". It was stamped on a plate in 1/8" sans serif lettering, and on both right and left-ha

One tiny correction: there was never an "R" indicating Right hand drive in the car numbers. The "L" indicated Left hand drive, but on cars with right hand drive, the space was blank. Cheers, Reid
