Having never "done" valves before, how difficult is this? I suppose the valves should be checked on my car, having 21 years in its life and 78,000 miles on its odometer. Any special tools required? -

Adding to what Charles has already said they can be set hot to .013in or cold to .015in. Personally I use cold because the temperature isn't going to alter while you are adjusting them unlike hot, an

If you want to adjust the valves, it's interesting and sort of fun. Order a new rocker cover gasket and the rubber sealing rings for the rocker cover nuts first. Remove sparkplugs. Using the "rule o

That's what I've done, it should be OK if the point of largest clearance is only a few degrees of rotation away from the exact 'rule of nine' point. PaulH.

I hope that I'm not repeating an old tired thread, but I've got a question for the wisdom of the list: In addition to "the rule of 9" I've also seen valves adjusted by turning the crank until both va

Umm, I don't see the practical difference, but maybe I don't understand what people are calling the "rule of 9". But I wouldn't be too sure that the intake and exhaust lobes are totally symmetrical,
