Polyurethane paint has worked best for me. Clear polyester powder coating cracks if the wheels are stored in cold climates. I prefer no clearcoat. Wash and wax only but it's always a lot of work to k

I have to admit to having no direct experience with clear coated wheels specifically. But as a rule a highly polished surface is not ideal for the adhesion of coatings even in ideal conditions. Wheel
