Nelson recommends gluing as well as riveting the rear of the top to the stiffener plate. The original tops were glued but it's not necessary. The male snaps should be pop-riveted through the top mat

I don't know what year your 6 is but my 70 came with snaps around the rear of the top. Apparently subsequent years did away with them. IMHO the snaps are great. Bill '70 6
