In my opinion, there is only one way... drill out the spot welds and put in a new one. I did this on my 80 and it looks great. Any other repair will eventually fail and make matters worse. Sam

did it fit ok? the one i rcd was returned, due to too "snug" (ie: i fig it was built too big) of a fit... that would be on my 79 'spit..... photos (including battery pic) @ http://www.richard.bonilla

I used a spot-weld cutter from Eastwood (www.eastwoodco.com) and managed to cut all the welds with only one or two cuts of non-welded metal. I then used my angle grinder to grind everything flat, and

I used the cutter to cut through the braces as needed, then gently bent them out of the way. They moved far enough that I was able to remove the old batt box (in pieces) and fit the new one in. The n
