There's a big thin washer under the bolt that is keyed to the shaft. Part of it is bent over against a flat on the bolt head as a locking device. You need to get a chisel under this and bend it up aw

I see the washer, but it appears to be bent back into a recess in the pulley rather than over the bolt. So the bolt should come out, but doesn't seem to want to move. Perhaps I should try applying so

Nope. Don't do that. Check that washer all the way 'round. It's supposed to lock the bolt in place. Can't remember the MG direction of normal rotation, but on Minis, you just set a wrench on the bolt

1-5/16 socket, LONG bar, counter clockwise. Heat isn't a good idea, heat and the harmonic balancer don't mix. As I recall you have the engine out of the car, separate the tranny from the engine. Use

you got it right Rocky, motor rotates clockwise as facing it from the fronts. S othe wrench goes on top the inner right fender well or from underneath, up against the left side frame rail section. Bl
