The answer depends on what kind of "plastic" - Plexiglas and that kind of material must be cut with a saw, but most other kinds can be scored on both sides of the line with a sharp knife and then "sn

A table saw works, and you can also buy a cutter that is about the size of EXACTO knife. They are available at home improvement stores. They are often used to cut plastic that fits in to ceiling grid
