Never torque studs into the block. Make sure the threads are clean then just bottom them, using two nuts if necessary. Torqueing the studs in to the block can crack it. Torqueing the head nuts on is

Further to Barneys note - The studs thenselves should not be overtightened into the block, if the threads on both the stud and the block are all clean and undamaged the studs should go in finger tigh
