I'll register my disagreement. It is wrong to assume that ALL drum brakes fade, or are otherwise inadequate. Perhaps some, but not all. IMHO most people who upgrade to discs and claim "it's a safety

Mark, et al: I hate to belabor this issue. Certainly the 100S is a distinct model. We all know that. The 100S is still a BN1 albiet highly modified, at the factory, for racing, first at Sebring (S).

The 100S Healey appeared in late 1954. I think they were serious. I don't know if Jensen ever were. The 100S modifications were done at the Healey shop rather than by BMC, BTW. jw /// vintage-race@au

Well said. The same reasoning also applies to carboretors, suspension mounting points, gearboxes, vehicle weight, roller-rockers, etc, etc. Changing these items from their original specification give

I don't think so. Again it is a grey area. Rotor or drum diameter was really all that was specified in the rule books. And, certainly the allowances of the fifties were stricter than in the sixties.

I race on drum brakes, and can outbrake most of you with discs...no talent on my part, it's an 850 pound Formula Vee with 1936-designed single leading shoe brakes. They do have to be adjusted constan

The simple answer is if you want a car with disc brakes get one. If your car has drums and you're unhappy get rid of it to someone who wants an Honest Car. Don't bastardise it and "upgrade" it. Where

BTW, a case can be made for discs over drums being safer in the wet. Given the option of changing over from drums to discs, wet racing performance/safety alone would be persuasive. Tom Butters /// vi
