My MGB has a 24D Distributor with an after market crane "helicopter" type ignition in lieu of points. I need a new distributor. Can I/Should I buy one of those $135 new 45D's on eBay? Will the crane

I am pretty confident that the curves are either entirely wrong or sticky. The vacuum advance is also suspect. I have adjusted and readjusted it and adjusted and readjusted the timing again and again

I doubt anything inside a 25D will fit a 45D well. I have no idea what 'helicopter' ignition is but I doubt it is adding much, properly maintained points ignition should be fine. RBs had 45Ds, one of

I have used the Crane electronic ignition conversion and transferred it from a 25D into a 45D. It will work in both distributors. As Paul H. stated, for any performance gain you need to get the advan

I have heard that 32 degree figure before, but it seems to me that when I was looking at the workshop manual for the 18GB specs, it stated total advance was 40 degrees. I don't recall what RPM. Need

Well, it's easy to switch between the 16 different curves with the 123, but there is nothing to say that any of them will have the optimum curve for your engine on today's fuels. While some will almo

No I don't, and obviously the electronic system will keep *its* curve indefinitely (or until the electronics fail). My point was that the *original* curves are pretty irrelevant unless one is running

It would be keen if someone developed an electronic distributor with an 'optimized' curve. I'm sure the original curves were compromises. There's only so much you can do with springs and diaphragms.

A nice idea, but you would probably need most of the 16 variations to cover the different engines, even more if you wanted to take into account different fuels people might have access to. Not much p

There are actually four generic distributors for 4-cylinder MGBs (25D4, 45D4, 45DE4, 45DM4), the two points types can be fitted to either positive or negative ground cars, the two electronic types we

Paul, sorry, I have to disagree with what you're saying. By varying the static timing the whole curve will be raised or lowered, not only the starting point. I think that is what you wanted to say as
