I have changed the points 2 times in 5500 miles on the TD. Solved the oil problem, but just curious about the longevity of points. Steve 52 TD

The dwell is important because it controls how long the coil is charging per cycle. Imagine if your points barely closed, there wouldn't be much time for current through the coil to built up a magnet
