Ok here's what's happening... rebuilt the engine last winter, when I went to put the distributor back in it wouldn't line up right and would fit 180 degrees off. Finally I got it to go in the correct

I'm turning the shaft/the rotor inside of the distributor, it locks right in the one direction, but not the other way. I can feel the slots where it goes kind of catch, but they don't want to go in.

Sounds like either your dizzy drive gear is 180 out or the dog gear on the dizzy is 180 out. Then again did you disassemble the dizzy? If so, maybe you have the rotor shaft on 180 out. Been there mor

I just did this 2 days ago... and I had sorta of the same problem... turned out my problem was that the pinch bolt really needed to be loosened (alot!) as well as the 2 other bolts that kinda of hold
