I received a request from someone on the B Register webpage. They have an engine in an MGB with the following serial number which I havent been able to find in The Original MGB anyone have any ideas?

Hello Rick, I would guess that the person is misreading the number. Instead of: 18V-850-AE-L 564, try: 18V-890-AE-L 564 If this assumption is correct, then it becomes a 1976-ish California spec. engi

Nope I already checked with him - this was my thought - that he had misread the number as 850 but he emailed back that it is definately 850. Could it be from another MG or LBC? Rick /// or try http:/

The 18V was 'standardised' across the BL range so if the number really is 850 it must be for another application, which AFAIK was only the Sherpa van (not so LBC) and the Marina. The Sherpas had 760

I think there were some minor casting differences in addition to the smaller pilot hole in the crankshaft on the Marina engine. When I bought my 71BGT in 1983, I spotted some difference in the engine
