If you mean what I thing you mean, that is, the heavy steel threaded slabs that sit in the door and to which the hinges bolt, then yes, they should be loose when the hinges are removed. They are two

If I pull the hinge off, will I be able to see how to shim these hinges? What's the material used to shim these? I've never even heard about these two adjustments! Could you please explain these for

The two hinges can be moved on the A-post up and down and from side to side to a) align the curves of the door and the front wing, and b) align the horizontal creases of the door and the front wing.
