I have a 76 spit and it's on the carb side directly below the 4th cylinder I guess old age must promote blindness. Where is the coolant drain plug located on the1500 block? - Right/Left? - Forward/Af

Does anybody know what year Spits got cat-converters? My 76 does not have one and I am pretty sure the exhaust is original. Moss says 77-80 non Calif and 75-80 Calif but Motorhead says 75-80 for non-

John, I'm not sure when the cat-converters came in; I do know that my Federal '74 did not have one, and that my Federal '78 does have one (both were/are stock). Ref the drain-plug, it's into the bloc

As several of you pointed out, there is indeed a drain plug on the 1500 block. In fact I now remember using it the last time I drained my coolant... I'm now off to learn how to read better and start

Sure there is! On all Spitfire and Herald engines they (as some have already stated) on the right side toward the back of the block. Later engines have this plugged while some of the early ones have

Not so fast, I'm looking at a 1500 block dangling from the end of my lift, and there is no drain, only a flat spot in the block casting where it should be. Thanks, BLMC bean counters! _______________

Is the flat spot directly under the freeze plug or about an inch or so toward the front of the engine? The one closer to the front is where the blow-by pipe was capped off. Joe
