I would not mount it to the spash shield. Seems to me it would allow the whole light to flutter and thus be annoying. I modified a pair of bumper brackets and mounted mine to that. Solid as a rock.

You are right about the one that attaches to the splash guard...it's garbage....except for badges. The one that I got which bolts to the bumper brackets may vibrate the beams a little, but not much.
