Personally, I would stay with the SU's. The Weber, while giving less maintenance, also gives less 'spirited' driving IMHO. If you do end up going with the Weber anyway, let me know, I may want some o

In any event, it would be advisable to use carb(s) known to work and known to be jetted properly for initial start-up and break-in of the new engine. You don't want to be cranking it a lot trying to

Here we go with that "Bedding in the cam" bit again. Funny thing, I was looking at John Twist's tech tips recently. Among them he had a tip on initial startup. He sez to crank it with the ignition of

Charley, I think you are misconstruing the "bedding in" part. That occurs after the engine is started, when you run it at a constant RPM for a certain period of time, say, at 2500 RPM for 30 minutes.

Hi Max, See below. Not really, Max. In the earlier thread, it was averred that the engine needed to be started immediately, to get the oil to it sooner, otherwise extended cranking before starting wo

Charley & Peggy Robinson had this to say: ...and you disagree with the cam grinder on this? Anyway, the oil starvation aspect would be averted by the Twist method, as you pointed out, and I previousl

Cam grinder can say what he wants, it's his product. However I've bought lots of new and reground cams. He's the only one I've heard of who says this. He's a majority of one in a good size group. It

Charley seems to be convinced that any competent mechanic could easily set up the carbs to run first time. I remain a little dubious, myself (if only based on Murphy's Law). I guess you have to decid

Hi Chris, Look here,so far you've said you have a rough-running engine that leaks oil. Not enough info to indicate that it needs a rebuild. Since it leaks, you don't know if ut uses oil, unless it ma

Crane cams recommends bringing the engine up and over 1500 RPM right off the bat for the first 1/2 of it's life. I have the instructions in .pdf if anyone wants me to e-mail the instructions to them.
