Think about this: When you adjust the timing, all you change is WHEN the plugs fire. Dieseling happens after you turn the ignition off! NO MORE SPARKING! The fuel mixture is ignited by hot components

Yes, but you also may effect how HOT the engine runs; this is why adjusting the timing may help eliminate dieseling. The hot spots - carbon or otherwise - will be hotter if the engine has been runnin
