I would advise a low budget hopup (unlike mine). Increase the compression ratio by shaving the head some, do some head work as you describe, get the Kent MD266 complete kit with valve springs, maybe

Without going overboard... the 731 factory spec. cam or equivalent works very well with a LCB (long centre branch) header .And a mk1 silencer gives an evil exhaust note too. Andy It intake headers
