Definitely do not paint it flat black. The engine compartment should be painted with the same paint as the body. I did mine with a brush and noone can tell. It looks like it was sprayed the same time

It just occured to me that many of you may not be aware that most body shop supply stores can put the color matched auto paint into aerosol cans for you. They do it on site and can do just 1 or 2 can
